Commander's Notes for July 2012
The past year has sped by. It was just March last week then April and May, June now July. I have so many to thank for helping me this year. Too many to list, but I can say the Past Commanders Don Bell, Ed Ott, Donnie Basler, Tom Hohnecker, and Gene Hirst made significant contributions and all the Executive Board and Working Committees did a great job keeping our Post running. I do need to point out Jon Hovey our Finance Officer, he not only performed a great job with finance he managed our Bingo and in his spare time organized the program Remember our Fallen. Considering this was Jons first year what can we expect for the next. The newsletter started out bumpy but with Linda Phillips stepping up and taking over as Third-vice, Linda and her group of volunteers did an outstanding job of putting the newsletter together and making sure it was mailed out in a timely manner. Another example is Herb Brizendine that kept the Turkey Shoot a great fund raiser with his team of volunteers. I cant begin to name or thank everyone that helped to make our post the best post in the state of Missouri. I cant even begin to name all of the volunteers that put so much positive work to keep everything going and helping and keeping our post so very productive. Everyone did a super job. Thanks for all your help making this a fabulous year.
I would like to thank all of our veterans, Auxiliary, SAL, Riders, spouses, everyones who has a very special person in their lives that helped our Post, friends and other volunteers for all of their help this year. I recognize all of your talents that you have contributed. It is greatly appreciated. Please continue giving your support.
As you know we did postpone a few things that will be scheduled for the fall when the weather cools and it is nice outside. We have scheduled the Installation Dinner for July 21, 2012. Butch Beyer volunteered to be our 2nd Vice. As you all remember Butch is very well qualified and will do a great job. As before the Bar Committee and the rest of us will be expected to help make the fund raising fun and profitable.
The birthday of our Nation, Independence Day the 4th of July is almost here. Blow your firecrackers and rockets and when you wake up it will be September and we will be looking forward to the Mouse Races, our fall dance, the Early Bird Dinner and our Initiation Program. We have lots to do and it all starts now. Please get your dues in as early as you can, remember this helps National with the Veterans Programs that are a must. Without the grassroots support from our Posts the Veterans Programs would not be successful. Just think of our own programs. Nothing happens without you and it starts with paying our dues.
Some of us are heading to the Conference this month. We will listen to some good reports, review some programs, meet old friends and make some new ones and come back refreshed and ready to work. Remember we have the best Post in the State and we want to keep it that way.
Our Bar is open Tuesday through Sunday. Our beverages are reasonably priced and so are our dinners on Wednesdays and Fridays. They are enjoyable and one of the ways that our post and auxiliary can support so many veteran programs. Bring your friends and enjoy your Post. Dont forget to ask them to join and become one of us. We always need new members. If you would like to become more involved my phone number is 573-374-3013, call me I would really enjoy having new members get involved with the seasoned veterans, all of us working together.
